A Calls To Alms

No I didn’t miss spell for once!

This phrase has been going around in my head for a while so I looked it up, and although we usually associate alms with some sort of charity help for people who need it the word ‘alms’ evidently comes from the old Greek word ‘eleemosyne’ which means compassion or pity.

I’m going for the compassion meaning!

Which means that my call to alms is mostly redundant as regards others in the forum as I have found this to be a truly compassionate place. As for a call to arms, it’s really not a good idea to battle on when our amygdala are stuck in FFF.

Being compassionate towards our own amygdala-insula, or our parts, or ourselves (or all of those) is a much better idea.

I think my call to Alms includes self compassion; as in the compassion meditation.

Also charity towards ourselves, as in the other meaning of alms; so it includes pacing, self care and self love.

With pragmatism as an extra spice to the mix; accepting what we cannot change, accepting whatever happens, dips and all, and continuing to GP as best we can.

So let’s send out our call to alms and join each other in self compassion, charity and pragmatism.
